John was born on October 24, 1948 in Quantico, Virginia, son of James and Harriett (Alleman) Burris. He was united in marriage to Carol Cairy on January 4, 1968 in Galena, Illinois. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, stationed in South Korea, where he was a Spec 8. John attended UW-Platteville where he was a double major graduating with his BS in civil and sanitary engineering. While studying he worked for the Platteville Water and Sewer Department. After college he worked for many years for Montgomery Watson for 25 years in Walnut Creek, California. John was always very involved with his work, but when he could, he enjoyed many trips to Hawaii and Mexico.
He is survived by his son, John J. Burris; his former wife, Carol; two grandsons, Blake Allen and John Thomas “JT” Burris; and one brother, Andrew Burris. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Sarah Bausch and brother, Michael Burris.
