James E. Falkenburg, age 73, died of end stage Alzheimer’s on January 30th, 2021 at the Ted and Diane Brandley Hospice House in Summerfield, FL.
Jim Falkenburg is survived by his wife, Robin Falkenburg of Ocala, FL, a sister, Mary DeMoss Allgoever in Valrico, FL, and her children, Michelle Duncan and Wayne Moon.
And daughters, Meredith of Greenville, AL, Cheri of Ocala, Barbara of Crystal River. His sons, Robert of Beverly Hills, James A. of Ocala, and Chad of Crystal River.
He was born on May 16, 1947 in Tampa, Florida to Elmer Hampton Falkenburg and Mary Cornett Falkenburg of Brandon. He graduated from Brandon High School. In 1967 he graduated from Florida College in Tampa and went on to get his Bachelor’s degree at the University of Tampa in 1969. During those college years he played the keyboard and formed a band, first named “The Class” and then later “Mercy”.
He joined the United States Marine Corp in 1970, went to the Vietnam War and continued later in the Reserves until 1977 with the commission of Captain. He was employed by F.W. Woolworth as a manager until 1980 and then accepted a position as manager with Belk Lindsay until 1998. He was offered a Sales Manager position with the St. Petersburg Times and worked there for seven years until deciding to relocate to Gainesville in 2005. He successfully worked at WCJB-TV20 until 2015 when he retired.
Jim was a devoted father, husband and friend. He was a faithful Christian, deeply involved in the Church ministries and always had Bible studies in his home. He most recently was a member Central Church of Christ in Ocala.
He was also very involved in his community. President of the Rotary Club, Director of the Chamber of Commerce are just a couple organizations he was active in.
After being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, he and his wife Robin relocated from Gainesville to Ocala to be able to visit his children and grandchildren more frequently.
His family and friends will always remember him as being kind, an achiever, always happy, a straight shooter and having a servant heart.
He is survived by 20 grandchildren: Mason, Matthew, Micah, Maryanna, Marcus, Kaidynce, Channing, Kaleb, Chayson, Andrew, Matthew, Louis Michael, Kylie Rae, Walker, Dakota, Waylon, Christopher, Daniel, Faith, Charlie. Five great-grandchildren: Jordan, Tyler, Madison, Louis Allen, Eric.
As well as being loved by countless people and families that he was known as Grandpa, Papa, Dad and brother to so many he came in contact with. He was a die-hard Florida Gator college football fan. He enjoyed music from the 60s & 70s. He was an avid duck hunter. He was proud to be able to serve his country and always said “Once a Marine, always a Marine”.
Funeral is scheduled February 5, 2021 at 2:00pm graveside at Seffner Cemetery in Seffner, FL. He will be laid to rest alongside his father & mother.
Because of COVID-19 there will be no other services and masks will be required.
