United States Ambassador to Yugoslavia, Guatamala and Switzerland.

Enlisted, December 13, 1915, in Troop D, Squadron A Cavalry, New York City. He mustered-in with Troop D, Squadron A Cavalry for service on the Mexican border June 30, 1916. Squadron A Cavalry was stationed at Camp McAllen, Texas, with the New York Division. Discharged from Squadron A Cavalry, September 24, 1916, at Fort Hamilton, Brooklyn, NY.

World War 1, attended ORC at Plattsburg Barracks, NY, and commissioned,Captain, Ordinance, October 26, 1917 and promoted Major, Engineers, March 8, 1919.Deployed to Europe, June 15, 1918. Served at Brest, St. Pierre-des-Corps and Headquarters, AEF, Service of Supply till November 1918. Ordered to the Peace Conference and appointed by the Peace Commissioners as Executive Officer, till July 3, 1919. He was send by the Peace Conference to the near East on special diplomatic work. Returned to the States, August 18, 1919 and discharged September 4, 1919.

World War 2, Colonel, New York Guard, December 12, 1942 - October 2, 1944.

Awarded the Serbian Order of the White Eagle; recommended for the Distinguished Service Medal and Legion of Honor.
