Gilbert Rodriguez, age 83, died Monday, March 15, 2021, at Morton County Senior Living Community in Elkhart, Kansas. He was born December 3, 1937, in Elkhart, Kansas, the son of Basilio and Dolores (Reyes) Rodriguez.

Gilbert was born and raised in Elkhart, where he attended and graduated from Elkhart High School in 1955. Following high school, Gilbert attended Railroad Telegraphers School in Pueblo, Colorado. He worked at Rock Island Railroad for a few years then enlisted in The United States Air Force on February 1, 1961, in Kansas City, Missouri. Gilbert was Honorably Discharged in 1965. Following his discharge, Gilbert worked for Denver Rio Grande Railroad until 1979. He then moved to Elkhart working several jobs and finally running his own lawn service. Gilbert moved around Southwest Kansas, also living in Johnson and Syracuse where he continued to run his lawn service and assist in elevator jobs. Due to health issues, he semi-retired in 2019. Gilbert was admitted to Morton County Senior Living Community in July of 2020 where he remained until his passing.

Gilbert is survived by his brothers, Richard Rodriguez and wife Karen of Rolla, Kansas, David Rodriguez and wife Romona of Columbus, Georgia, Raul Rodriguez of Elkhart, Kansas, and Charles Rodriguez and wife Joyce of Georgetown, Texas.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Basilio and Dolores; sister, Mary Rodriguez Aumiller; and brothers, Joe Rodriguez, Edward Rodriguez, and Marcos Rodriguez.

Vigil and Rosary Service and Memorial Mass will be Saturday, March 20, 2021, at 10:00 AM at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Elkhart, Kansas, with Reverend Francis Khoi Nguyen officiating. The service will be live streamed on Garnand Funeral Home Facebook page. Inurnment will follow at the Elkhart Cemetery with military rites by Elkhart VFW Point Rock Post #3162.
