MOUNT CLARE, W.Va. — John DeFazio, age 79, went Home to the Lord in Summerville, SC, on February 7th, 2021.
John was born June 17, 1941, in Clarksburg, WV, the son of Giuseppe (Joe) and Flora (Mancini) DeFazio.
He graduated Roosevelt-Wilson High School, Clarksburg, WV and Salem College, Salem, WV. John and his 9 siblings grew up working at the family businesses, Joe DeFazio Lumber and the Mancini store both in clarksburg, wv. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Air Force. After serving four years, he returned home to Clarksburg, WV and worked at Pittsburgh Plate Glass, Clarksburg, WV. He later worked for the US Department of Veterans Affairs, at the Louis A. Johnson VA Hospital in Clarksburg, WV. He transferred to work for the US Department of Justice, FCI Morgantown in 1976. He retired from FCI Morgantown in 1998. He briefly worked at Pharmalogic in Bridgeport, WV after retiring from the federal government.
John was preceded in death by his parents; his spouse, Shirley and seven siblings: Matilda (DeFazio) Guerriero, Rose “Boots” (DeFazio) Ferguson, Anthony "Tony" DeFazio, William "Bill" DeFazio, Delores “Glory” (DeFazio) Redmond, Jean (DeFazio) Cain and Benjamin "Benny" DeFazio.
In November 1964, John married Shirley Joanne (Moore) DeFazio of Clarksburg, WV. John and Shirley were proud of their 39 years of marriage, their 2 children and their 3 grandchildren. Shirley passed in 2003 but they greatly enjoyed the successes of their children and their grandchildren. John and Shirley raised their two children: Robert John DeFazio and Cynthia Ann DeFazio in Bridgeport, WV. Robert and his wife Renee and Cynthia; John and Shirley are also survived by their three grandchildren: Christopher DeFazio, Caterina DeFazio and Olivia Grace DeFazio Salisbury. John deeply loved his two surviving sisters: Mary (DeFazio) Rice and Catherine (DeFazio) Schofield. John has many beloved nieces and nephews; all of which were special to him. He loved to entertain family and friends with his colorful and comical stories. John's family and friends knew his support to be unwavering and boundless. On September 11, 2010, John married Joy Gregoire Gilchrist Stalnaker. Joy continues to enjoy an active life and the two enjoyed traveling together at the beginning of their 10 years together; they traveled to NY, FL, MO and Italy. When he passed, he was residing in SC with his wife, "Joyski".
Family and friends are invited to attend a graveside service at 11 a.m. on March 27th at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, Mt. Clare, WV.
