Rachel Abshire Gilmore 83, of Wichita Falls, Texas formally of Duncan, passed away Sunday, March 14, 2021 in Wichita Falls, Texas at Texhoma Christian Care Center.

Graveside funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 17, 2021 at the Duncan Cemetery with Rev. Richard Allen officiating, and arrangements have been entrusted to the family care of Carter-Smart Funeral Directors.

Rachel was born July 7, 1937 in Ringling, Oklahoma to Charles "Pete" and Zetha Loftin Abshire, Rachel married John Gilmore on March 22, 1958 at Santa Fe Free Will Baptist Church in Santa Fe, Oklahoma, John preceded her in death April 16, 2020.

Rachel is survived by two sons; Tommy Gilmore & his wife Hope of Collinsville, Oklahoma, and Charles Gilmore & his wife Patty of Wichita Falls, Texas and a sister; Wilma Strickland of Duncan, Oklahoma, She was preceded in death by brothers; Ezra Abshire & his wife Joyce of Oklahoma City, Charles Abshire & his wife Jenny, Cecil Abshire & his wife Rachel and Francis Abshire & his wife Juanita all of the Duncan area. Also surviving are three grandaughters; Lyndsey Rollins, and son; Blace of Miami, Oklahoma, Loren Williams & her husband Derek and children, Olivia and Levi, of Spring Creek, Nevada, Polly Gilmore, Dillion Germany of Wichita Falls, Texas, multiple nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Rachel graduated from Dundee High School in 1955. She and John enjoyed camping, ceramics, growing flowers and gardening. Rachel worked for Wal-Mart in Ardmore, Oklahoma, Stanford, Kentucky, Yukon, Oklahoma and moved to Duncan, Oklahoma in 1996 where she retired after 25 years. She was a member of Country Side Free Will Baptist Church in Velma. She adored their granddaughters and great grandchildren. For the past three and a half years Rachel has been living at the Texhoma Christian Care Center in Wichita Falls, Texas where she went to live with her savior on March 14, 2021. She will be greatly missed...
