One of the most compassionate, giving people I have ever known. She is rejoicing today with her many loved ones, and we will see her again soon! You will be missed!

Georgia Marie (Copley) Hayes passed away on Monday, March 15, 2021, in Mexia, TX. She graced this world with her presence on June 21, 1928 in Rodney, TX.
The years of her youth were spent going to school in Munger and working on the cotton farm with her nine siblings. When she was old enough, she started working at a café where she met the love of her life, Buford Hayes. They were married September 22, 1947 in Hubbard, Texas. In addition to Marie’s love of her family, she found great pride in feeding and caring for the multitudes of children who came through the Mexia ISD cafeterias over her 21-year career.
Marie gave her heart to the students as she made-from scratch-her cinnamon rolls, homemade dinner rolls and her famous WALK TO SCHOOL COOKIES (for which the family does have the recipe and will lovingly share it with you).
Those waiting for Marie’s grand entrance through the Pearly Gates were her parents, Claude Allen Copley and Francis Rosana Bryant Copley; Nine brothers and sisters: Edward Copley, Homer Copley, Hazel Lummus, Vera “Honey” Lummus, Dorothy Wheeler, Thelma Anderson, Reubin Copley, Irene McLendon, and Ardell Hollingsworth; Grandchildren: Jacqualyn Michelle Lee and Andrew Keith Lee; and Son-in-Law Keith Lee.
To carry on her life’s legacy of Loving God and family are her children-Golinda Lee of Mexia, TX; Randy Hayes and wife, Ronda of Flower Mound, TX; David Hayes and wife, Alicia of Mexia, TX; Grandchildren-Tanya Davidson and husband, Trey of Teague, TX; Curtis Hayes and wife, Marissa of Lewisville, TX; Lindsay Hayes of Wortham, TX; Emily Hayes of College Station, TX, and Brenton Hayes of Mexia, TX; five great grandchildren: Jaycee, Jenna and Jolee Swinburn, and Lydia and Ephraim Hayes, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Marie’s life will be held at 2:00p.m., Thursday, March 18,2021 at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home with Wes Willie and Jason Ash officiating. Interment will follow in the Mexia Cemetery. Pallbearers are: Bill Capers, Jeremy Stephens, Jack Ward, Don Shelton, Eppi Ochoa, and Gil Ash. Honorary Pallbearer is Chris Hendrick.
Visitation with the family will be from 6:00 p.m.-8:00p.m. Wednesday, March 17, 2021 at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home.
In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Marie’s home church, Forest Glade Baptist Church, P.O. Box 585, Mexia, Texas
