Ralph was born July 26, 1927, in Stilson, IA to Ivan Richardson and Esther (Goozey) Richardson. His mother passed away when he was five-years-old. Shortly, after his mother’s death, Ralph, his two brothers and sister went to live with the Richardson grandparents.
As a young man, Ralph worked on the Peterson farm while residing in the caring home of Emil Peterson and his wife, Nola.
before enlisting in the Navy during World War II. Ralph was in the Navy and assigned to the U.S.S. General W. A. Mann AP 112 transport.
While on Navy liberty in Vancouver, B.C., Canada, he saw a young woman through a café window and said, “I am going to marry that woman”. The woman was Rose Sammartino, and they married in 1947, celebrating 71 anniversaries.
Ralph graduated from auto mechanic training and worked at numerous car dealerships in the Des Moines metropolitan area. He was employed and enjoyed instructing and sharing his “on the job” life experiences with the students enrolled in the auto technician program at the Des Moines Area Community College in Ankeny. He retired as an instructor from Des Moines Area Community College in 1992.
Preceding in death were his grandparents, parents; brothers, Jerald and Bill; loving aunts and uncles.
Burial will be 12:30 p.m. Monday, March, 22 at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery, Van Meter, IA.
