JoAnn (Gerstenberger) Johnson was born on August 1, 1932, in Spokane, Washington to John and Rose Gerstenberger. She was the third of five children. The family later moved to Everett, Washington.

After High School she went to work for GTE where she met her future husband. She married Richard Johnson in September of 1956. Richard’s job eventually took the family to Hillsboro, Oregon in 1966.

JoAnn stayed home and cared for everyone including her Mother, children and grandchildren. Creating a home that always welcomed the family.

She enjoyed walking with friends and neighbors and was always up for a scrabble game. She was a member of St. Matthews Catholic Church and would often attend daily mass.

JoAnn was predeceased by her parents, husband, and brothers Bob and Larry Gerstenberger.

Those living and missing JoAnn include her sisters Janet (Bill) Canniff and Jeanine (Dan) Kavanaugh. She will be missed by her sons Gary (Barbara) Johnson, Greg (Patti) Johnson, Andrew Johnson and daughter Kathy (Jim) Bishop. Her grandchildren Alyssa Johnson, Matthew Johnson, Alexander Johnson, Nicholas Johnson and Rebecca Bishop will continue to remember their time with her as something that was very special. Her great-granddaughter Lydia brought her great joy by her visits.

Her best friend Jane Gantt and daughter Janell were always a special part of her life and helped her through many difficult times.

Her final years were spent living at The Springs at Tanasbourne with so many wonderful people that showed compassion and love. These heroes continued to care and comfort JoAnn even through this last year with the challenges that the COVID-19 epidemic brought on. When the family was unable to be with her, we knew she was being cared for.

Donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
