Bobby “Bob” Dean Morgan, age 87, of Katy, Texas passed away early Saturday morning, March 13th, 2021. Bob was born June 11th, 1933 in Shiloh, Texas to Walker E. Morgan and Mary Fleming Morgan.  He married Irene Brod Morgan, December 5th, 1970. They moved to Katy with their daughters in 1977 and have resided there since.

Bob was the youngest of seven children working on the family farm outside of Mexia. He graduated Mexia High School and moved to Waco where he worked for Western Electric on telephone systems.  Bob entered the US Army in 1953 and served in Alaska during the Korean War.  He enjoyed his time in Alaska and put his knowledge of telephone lines to good use, securing an indoor assignment. Upon the completion of his tour in 1955, he briefly attended Texas A&M before returning to work for Western Electric in Dallas.

In the early 1960’s, Bob moved to Houston to begin his over 50-year career in the auto parts business.  Over the decades, he had his own store, worked for his brother Bill at Morgan Auto Supply in Pasadena, and worked for several parts distributors in Houston in different capacities.  He retired in 2019 at 85 years young.  He didn’t retire earlier because of the people - they became his extended family.  He and Irene were able to travel extensively with customers and promotional events.  They have many lifelong friends from these years.

After leading a long bachelor’s life, Bob met Irene on a blind date in 1967. There was no turning back, she was truly the love of his life.  He was always a gentleman, and they enjoyed spending time with their friends and traveling.  Wherever he went, he always came home with a good story.   This was a love story of 50 years of marriage.

Bob was a devoted Houston sports fan – Colt 45’s, Oilers, Astros, Rockets.  He enjoyed them all, from seeing the first and last game in the Astrodome, to traveling with the Oiler’s back in Bum Phillips Luv Ya Blue days. He was a Baylor fan in the early years while enjoying time with his nephews and their friends.  He converted to a lifelong Aggie fan while the girls attended A&M, meeting their two future Aggie husbands. He now has a grandson there currently, a granddaughter starting next year and more ready to join them. He loved to hunt, fish, and golf. There are many great memories and hunting tales over the years with his friends and riding in his old blue Jeep.

They have two daughters, Amy and Jill, “The Morgan girls.”  Bob loved both his daughters and enjoyed spending time as a family.  He loved being involved in all their activities from coaching sports teams, cheering in the stands  for volleyball or band, and spent many a night helping them with their science fair projects and math homework at the kitchen table.

Bob was very active at Epiphany of the Lord Catholic Church.  He was the first parish council president and helped in the founding of the new parish.  He was active in Engaged Sponsor couples, Eucharistic Minister, Sunday Collection Team, K of C, Bingo, Eucharist Minister, and Outreach services, to name a few.

He spent a lot of time at their farm in Bernardo, where Irene was raised.  He enjoyed the cattle and his garden, especially with the grandkids.  Bob enjoyed being busy and working on things, and the farm was a place where he could do both.

Bob treasured his time with his wife, daughters, sons-in-laws and five grandkids.  He loved to tell a good story and a joke, work a trade on the side, or rig something to work again.  He was a friend to all, willing to offer a helping hand to anyone, and always made everyone feel welcomed.  He had a blessed life and will be greatly missed.

Bob is proceeded in death by his parents Walker and Mary Morgan, brothers, Murphy, Pete, Bill, and Jack Morgan and sisters Nell Eubanks and Mildred Fessler.  He is survived by his wife, Irene Morgan of Katy, two daughters, Amy Morgan Fowler of Katy, and husband Kent, grandchildren Nicholas, Bryan and Addie, and Jill Morgan Van De Walle of Dripping Springs, and husband Tony, grandchildren Morgan and Taylor.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 16, 2021 at the Epiphany of the Lord Catholic Church, in Katy, where a rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.  Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 17, 2021 at the Epiphany of the Lord Catholic Church, in Katy, with Rev. Tom Lam, Celebrant.  A graveside service will follow at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the St. Roch Cemetery, 1600 Frelsburg Road, Alleyton, Texas 78935.
