Bessie was born on the wagon train during the move from Missouri to Indian Territory. She was delivered by her uncle Dr. William Matlock. Lillie was listed on the census as being born in Arkansas but they never lived in that state. The trip took them one month. Her son says she was born in Indian Territory.
