George Abbott was the chief engineer on the S.S. Iceland. This ship was bought from the Montreal Sealing Co. in 1880 by Munn & Company of Harbour Grace. The 1885/1886 Sharp's Directory for Harbour Grace lists George Abbot as an engineer living on Noad Street. For a number of years the S.S. Iceland sailed from Pool's Island under Captain William Winsor.
