Virginia Rogers
October 10, 1939 - March 11, 2021

Virginia Rogers, 81, of Rowlett Texas passed away on March 11, 2021. She was born October 10, 1939 in Lannius Texas. Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Gibb Lavon Rogers, her parents, Thomas Nelson and Nora Christine Taylor Johnson, brothers Wayne Johnson and Tommy Johnson, niece Jennifer Johnson and sister-in-law Theresa Johnson. She is survived by her daughter, Kristin Thrower of Lubbock, nephews Michael Johnson of Whitesboro, Brandon Johnson of Heath, nieces Jeffri Hodge of Calera OK and Vicki Phillips of Keller.

Virginia attended East Texas State University (now Texas A&M Commerce) where she earned a BA and MA in English. She was employed by E-Systems Garland Division (now Raytheon) for several years as a technical writer. She was a faithful member of First United Methodist Church of Rowlett and a long-time member of the Nomad Sunday School Class.

Although she loved to read and sew, gardening was her favorite hobby and she always grew more than she needed because she loved to share the harvest with her friends.

One of her favorite Bible verses is from Ecclesiastes 3:1-8: “For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven: a time to be born and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to reap; a time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; a time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; a time to seek, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away; a time to rend, and a time to sow; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak; a time to love, and a time to hate; a time for war and a time for peace.”

A memorial service for Virginia will be held at 1:00pm on Tuesday, March 16, 2021, at First United Methodist Church of Rowlett.
