Paul served in the US Army, with assignment in Vietnam from 1968-1969. He was wounded and was awarded the Purple Heart.

He was a Certified Massage Therapist and enjoyed golfing and long walks. Paul was the consummate gentleman, always cordial and soft spoken. He leaves behind many family and Friends of Bill W. He passed away from a heart ailment.

Endicott - Paul Bendert, a purple heart awardee of the Vietnam war, and a member and mentor of AA, died unexpectedly on March 11, 2021at his home in Endicott, NY.

Paul is survived by his brother Thomas (Virginia), and Edward (Trish) Bendert. Also many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents Edward and Lena, his sister Theresa and his brother Joseph.

Paul was devoted to helping people who struggled with alcohol and drug addiction and was always there when someone needed help. He mentored many people during his lifetime and was sober for over 30 years. Paul was admired, respected and loved by his community and family. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday 10:30 am at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, Endicott, (livestream https://youtu.be/Ey9CYpxCkB0), followed by burial in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends at church Wednesday from 9:30 am until mass time at 10:30 am. Donations can be made to the food pantry at Our Lady of Council Church.
