Katie leaves behind her husband, Robert Smith of the home; son, Steven Smith and wife Jill of Elizabethtown; three daughters: Jennifer Maynard and husband Chuck of Garland, Sandra Watson and husband Ricky of Summerton, SC, Leslie Cain and husband Tim of Garland; brother, Alben Smith of White Oak; three sisters: Gerlidine Linkous of Stedman, Juanita Dawson of Garland, Ernestine Davis of Harrells; seven grandchildren: Derek Davis (Tiffany), Megan Kiger (Nathan), Madeline Mann (Zach), Hunter Smith, Dylan Smith, Luke Cain, Lydia Cain; two great-grandchildren: London and Lincoln Davis.
Katie treasured the time spent with her family. She loved children, taught Sunday School and was an active member of Briar Branch Baptist Church where in years past she led the youth choir. She enjoyed fishing, cooking for her family, sewing, canning vegetables, reading, and swinging on the front porch swing just to name a few of her hobbies. She also savored all the Sunday afternoon rides to get ice cream. Katie will be missed greatly by all who knew her.
A funeral service will be held at 3pm on Tuesday, March 16th at Briar Branch Baptist Church with Rev. Carlton Bryan officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends immediately following services.
