Sister Estelle Marie Wallace, R.S.M., a Sister of Mercy, died in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, on May 27, 2014.
Sister was born on June 19, 1928 in New Orleans, Louisiana. She is preceded in death by her parents Thomas J. Wallace II and Grace Ann Bird Wallace, her brothers Thomas J. III and Al Cornelius J., and her sisters Mary F. Ferguson and Ellen T. Sister is survived by her brother Michael B Wallace, his wife Camille, and Sister's sister-in-law Betty Wallace. Her survivors also include many beloved nieces, nephews and their children.
Sister Estelle entered the Sisters of Mercy in Frontenac, Missouri on September 8, 1960 and made her first profession of vows August 16, 1963. As an elementary school teacher, she served in ministry in the Archdiocese of New Orleans at St. Francis Xavier School in Metairie, St. Alphonsus School in New Orleans, and Our Lady of Guadalupe School in Mission, Texas. She also served in health ministry at Mercy Health Center Oklahoma City and Mercy Hospital New Orleans.
Sister moved to Oklahoma City after Katrina and lived at Mercy Hospital Convent there until her death.
The Sisters of Mercy invite her family and friends to celebrate her life. Viewing will be at Greenwood Funeral Home in New Orleans, Louisiana on Monday June 2, 2014 at 9:00 a. m. followed by a rosary at 10:00 am and Holy Mass at 11:00 a.m. in Greenwood Chapel. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery #3 in New Orleans.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be sent to the Sisters of Mercy Retirement; 101 Mercy Drive; Belmont, NC 28012.
