Judge Thomas E. Sims, Sr. (89) passed away peacefully on Sunday March 7, 2021 surrounded by his family. Thomas was born on December 15, 1931 in Independence, MO to Thomas Harold Sims and Francis Cynthia (Taylor) Sims.

He graduated from Paseo High School in 1949, following graduation he joined the Navy and served in the Korean War from 1949-1953. After he completed his service in the Navy he returned to Kansas City where he met his wife Beverly. He attended college at the University of Missouri – Kansas City where he graduated with a Bachelors' degree in Business Administration then later received his Juris Doctorate at the University of Missouri – Kansas City in 1961.

He was hired by Rogers Field & Gentry Law as an Associate Trial Lawyer for 10 years. During his tenure, he served as a Trial Lawyer on the first Tobacco Litigation case in the nation. He later was appointed a Judgeship to the Municipal Court of Kansas City in 1970. After 25 years of service, he retired in 1995. During his career and after retirement he served on many boards and was involved in multiple organizations including: American Judicature Society, National Bar Association, Missouri Bar Association, Kansas City Bar Association, Kansas City Legal Secretaries Association, Sober House, North Kansas City Hospital Board 8 yrs., Board Member for the KCATA Streetcar initiative, Instructor at the National Judicial College in Reno, NV for 10 yrs., Sertoma of Kansas City, President of the Missouri Institute of Justice, Board Member of the Native Sons & Daughters of Greater Kansas City, Assistant Scout Master - Boy Scouts of America Troup 179, Honorary Warrior of the Tribe of Mic-O-Say for 10yrs., and Member of the First Presbyterian Church of North Kansas City.

He was married at the Emmanuel Presbyterian Church in Kansas City, MO and is survived by his loving wife, Beverly June (McCroskie) of 65 years. Tom is remembered lovingly by his three children, Thomas E. Sims, Jr. (Carol) of Liberty, MO; Shelby A. McFadden (Rick) of New Smyrna Beach, FL; Stephen A. Sims (Rene) of Kansas City, Mo; Two grandchildren, Trevor A. Beck of Kansas City, MO; Tyler J. Beck (Nicole) of Stacy, MN and four great grandchildren.He will be greatly missed by many friends and family. Donations can be made to: First Presbyterian Church in North Kansas City, MO in lieu of flowers.

Services will be held at: Emmanuel Presbyterian Church, 3800 NE Parvin Rd, Kansas City, MO 64117. Visitation is 1:00pm – 2:00pm and Memorial Service is 2:00pm – 2:45pm.

Graveside Services are at 3:00pm at White Chapel Cemetery, 6600 NE Antioch Rd, Gladstone, MO 64119 on Sat. March 20, 2021.
