Frank Knott was born August 6, 1871. He was one of nine children born to Edward and Alice Knott all whom have preceded him in death, except one brother, George of Manilla.
He was 16 years of age when his parents moved to Crawford county and bought a farm east of Manilla, which is now occupied by his brother, George. Mr Knott was connected with the mercantile business in Manilla since 1903 and for a number of years had his own store. In later years he was employed in Calvins Store but retired in 1951 because of failing health. He remained active until several weeks ago and often walked down town where he visited with numerous friends.
On Easter Sunday in 1945 Mr Knott was honored with a reception and gift, for having served as organist and choir leader for 50 years at the Sacred Heart church. Soon after he retired as organist, but often visited the church and played his favorite melodies from the library of musical volumes which he had acquired through the years. He also kept an historical account of the priests and choir members which he attended during the years he was active in the church.
Until 1941 he lived in his own home but later made his home with his niece, Mrs Walter Reiff.
Frank died at St. Anthonys hospital at Carroll Friday morning, March 19, following two weeks illness. On March 5 he suffered a stroke from which he failed to recover. He was 82 years, 7 months and 13 days at the time of his death.
Funeral services were held for Frank at the Scared Heart church in Manilla, Monday morning March 22, with the Rev. L.D. Frank officiating at the mass. Present in the sanctuary were the Rev. E.J. Schumann of Avoca, Rev. J.J. Hyland of Sheldon and Rev. D.L. Clark of Vail. Pallbearers were, Edward N., Floyd, Edward E. and Lloyd Knott, Lynn McCracken and Walter Reiff. Interment was in the Mt. Olive cemetery.
