Scott Brown, age 68, of Wonder Lake, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, March 11, 2021, at Northwestern Centegra Hospital in McHenry.
Scott was born September 3, 1952, in Chicago, the son of James and Mary (Kane) Brown. On June 20, 1975, Scott married his best friend and the love of his life, Kathleen O'Neill in Chicago.

In 1977, Scott began a proud career as a Chicago City Police Officer, where he enjoyed helping people and serving his community. Scott always had a love of the outdoors and pursued hobbies throughout his life that connected him to nature – horseback riding, raising birds, bicycling, photography. He pursued his interests intensely, whether that meant a basement full of birds or completing a century (100 mile) bike ride in a day. He retired to a farm in Cissna Park in 2003 and created the horse farm he and Kathleen had always wanted.
More than anything, Scott had a love for his family. He enjoyed car rides, bike rides, hikes, and travelling with Kathleen and their kids, and he was thrilled to welcome spouses and grandchildren to the family. Scott enjoyed hosting gatherings of his large family, which always concluded with his trademark response to, "Thanks for having us": "Thanks for being had!"
Eventually, Scott and Kathleen moved to Wonder Lake to be closer to kids and grandkids. When Multiple Sclerosis prevented Scott from physically playing with his grandchildren, he found other ways to connect with them through video games, rides on his scooter or wheelchair, and a well-stocked "candy drawer".

Scott is survived by his loving wife of over 45 years, Kathleen Brown; children: Sarah (John) Parisi, Justin (Dayna) Brown, and Adam (Nancy Andrade) Brown; and his 12 grandchildren: Cooper, Dexter, Campbell, Zakary, Caycee, Lynzee, Aubree, Axel, Dakota, Sawyer, Grant, and Madeline. He is further survived by his siblings: Judy Blum, Edward Brown, Kim Bowles, and Joanne Kueltzo; and numerous adored nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents James and Mary Brown, Scott was preceded in death by his sister, Marylou Butowski; and brothers: James 'Butch', Robert, and Don Brown.

A Visitation will be held from 1-4 P.M., on Sunday, March 14, 2021, at Colonial Funeral Home, 591 Ridgeview Drive, McHenry.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Scott's name may be directed to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.

With the current CDC Covid 19 recommendations and Illinois guidelines, only 50 people will be allowed within the funeral home facilities at a single time and all attendees must have a facemask or face covering on, prior to entry.
