Obituary
Claude “Buddy” Smith, 76 years old, passed away peacefully March 8, 2021, at Asbury Hospice House, Hattiesburg, Ms. Buddy was a veteran who served in the Vietnam War and spent another 10 years in the National Guard Armory. Buddy was born October 16, 1944, in Moorhead, MS to his parents James Monroe and Mary Thetus Smith. When he was just 19, he asked his then-girlfriend, JoAnn, to marry him through a letter he wrote to her from overseas. Upon his return, they married shortly thereafter and had two children, Beverly, and Lil Buddy. They celebrated 53 years together.

Buddy was a Painter, known by many for his skills and kindness. He continued to work until he laid the paintbrush down for the last time just 3 weeks ago. Buddy was also a minister of the Gospel. He loved God and served Him in many capacities.

When he wasn’t working, Buddy had a passion for woodworking, painting pictures, and guitar picking. And anything he did, he always had someone in mind to give the treasures he’d made to or songs he played, usually were done to lift someone’s spirits. He called himself “Mississippi Bud”.

And he had a passion for deer hunting and he loved fishing. Buddy created many memories with friends and family being a true sportsman.
