Donald E.J. Hood, 84, of Loves Park, IL, passed away peacefully, Wednesday morning, March 10, 2021 in his home. He was born December 19, 1936 in Belmond, Iowa, the son of Alphonsus and Genevieve (Fulton) Hood. Donald proudly served in the United States Army from 1956-1959. He married the love of his life, Marie G. Love, on May 21, 1960. Don worked in construction all of his life, mostly doing concrete with Sjostrom and Stenstrom in Rockford. He was a champion roller skater in his younger years.
Donald is survived by his daughters, Debbie (Russ) Schaefer, Donna Zies, Diana (Lonnie) Byerley and Darla Cornett; grandchildren, James, Allix (Mark), Kyle (Chelsie), Lauren (Dan), Krista (Mariah), Cody, Bailey (Briana), Kason, Connor and Izabela; great-grandchildren, JT, Kolton, Jaxson, Blake, Kyla, Madisyn, Baileigh, Novaleigh, Collins, Lilly, and Baby Mantta due in November; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Marie, daughter Darlene Hood, siblings, Loretta, Joe, Bill, Pauline, Mary, Ken and Al.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 17, 2021 at Sunset Funeral Home, 8800 N. Alpine Rd, Machesney Park, IL 61115 with a visitation to begin at 12:30 p.m. until the time of service. Burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
