Laurie Jean Foster
Laurie Jean Foster of DuPont, WA passed away peacefully on March 11, 2021 after a four-year battle with cancer.
Laurie was preceded in death by her mom, Janet Lee Crutcher. She is survived by her daughter, Jacqueline McCloskey and son-in-law Jason, her father, Laurence Foster, sisters Linda Letney and Karen Pyle and four nieces and nephews.
Laurie was born on November 12, 1959 in Redondo, King County and graduated from Puyallup HS. Laurie worked as a dedicated public servant at Washington State Department of Health, and Labor and Industries.
Outside of work, she was an advocate for history, clean water and protecting natural resources in the community she lived in. Laurie loved walking the Sequalitchew Creek Canyon, visiting the Billy Frank Nisqually National Wildlife Center, and taking in Puget Sound.
Laurie was a volunteer for the Pierce County Conservation Futures Program and served as the Chair from 2016-2018. She volunteered with the Sequalitchew Creek Watershed Council and Nisqually Land Trust and was certified in the Nisqually Stream Stewards program. Laurie loved gardening and was an active participant of the DuPont Community Garden. As much as she loved all things nature, she equally loved to create beautiful clothing through knitting, sewing and 18th century costume making. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Sacajawea Chapter in Olympia, WA.
Laurie’s friends and family will always remember her sense of humor, passion for clean water, her appreciation of history, her love of animals, and the sound of her laughter.
Gifts in Laurie’s name may be made to the Nisqually Delta Association, or the DuPont Community Garden.
A private funeral will be held for family members on Friday, March 19, 2021 at New Tacoma Cemetery.
