Betty Lou Jane Smith was born September 3, 1928 at Fargo, ND to Jess and Alice (Schlenz) Smith. She attended her schooling in Fargo.

In 1946 she met Earl Meyer while working at the Cozy Café in Fargo. They married on March 26, 1947 and made their home on the family farm near Binford, ND. In 1961 they moved to Hawley, MN and owned and operated a dairy farm. After a couple years on the dairy farm they moved to Britton where she began working for Buhl's Laundry.

They left Britton when Earl accepted a job in Washington, but later returned to the Britton area in 1970. Earl passed away on December 4, 2009. In April of 2019 she moved into Wheatcrest Hills Healthcare Center.

Betty was an avid bowler and participated in many women and mixed leagues. She enjoyed playing cards, especially whist, and attending her grandchildren's sporting events.
