Joseph Donald Fowler passed away peacefully, on March 7, 2021. He was born May 10, 1928, in Birmingham, AL, to the late Egbert O’Neal and Katie Elizabeth Smith Fowler. Don served in the US Navy during WWII and the US Air Force in the Korean Conflict. He graduated from the University of South Carolina with a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering. He was a jack of all trades and had many jobs, including working in real estate and accounting before starting his career with the State of North Carolina, working in telecommunications / ITT. Don loved spending time with his family and will be missed.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date at Hillyer Memorial Christian Church in Raleigh, NC.

Don is survived by his wife, Mary D. Fowler; children, James O’Neal Fowler and Katherine Lizbeth Fowler; grandchildren, Grace Fowler and Oleg Dismukes; step-children, Michael Dismukes (wife Nancy), David Dismukes (wife Janine) and John Dismukes (wife Pam); a sister, Patricia Fowler Spooner (husband Bernard); and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by aunts who helped to raise him, Allelia Smith and Alvenia Smith; and his brothers, Richard and John Fowler.
