Frederick "Fred" D. Davis, 89, went to be with the Lord surrounded by his loving family, Thursday, March 4, 2021. He leaves behind his wife, Virginia Davis; son Steve Davis; daughter Tammy (Tony) Brintlinger; son Tommy (Rachel) Davis; stepdaughter Elizabeth Jones; granddaughters Ashlynne (Tony) Vonville and Afton (Ben) Townsend and grandsons Tommy, Jacob and Aaron Moses Davis; great-grandchildren Charley, Carter, and Cale Vonville and Isabella Townsend; brothers Elwood Davis and Parks Davis, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Noah Edwin Davis and Alda Laura Langford Davis and his brother Noah Edwin Davis Jr.
Born in Marion, Ohio on February 3, 1932, Fred spent his childhood in his hometown of Marysville, Ohio, where he grew up working at his family's barber shop and cab company, as well as taking odd jobs in the small businesses throughout the community. His strong work ethic, developed as a young boy, continued throughout his life, where he regularly worked 6 days a week. Fred taught himself to play seven musical instruments, and at the age of 12, under his mother's tutelage, he started his own band, The Freddy Davis Orchestra, which played at many Marysville events throughout his school years.
After graduating from Marysville High School in 1950, Fred enlisted in the United States Air Force and served honorably during the Korean War, from 1950-1954, serving one year in Korea in communications/teletype. He and his family were always proud of his service to, and love of, his country.
After Fred's discharge from the Air Force, he attended The Ohio State University (Ohio State) for one year, under the GI bill, planning for a career as a school band director, before deciding to leave his studies and concentrate on his successful ongoing career, which had proven to be enjoyable.
Long known for his dry sense of humor and ability to talk to people from all walks of life, while attending and after leaving Ohio State, Fred had started his 60 year sales career, in piano, organ and musical instruments, at Sommers & Son, followed by Wurlitzer Piano Company where he was both City Manager and Regional Manager, and Graves Piano & Organ Co., where he worked the last 40 years of his life.
Fred was a member of the American Legion Gahanna Post and went on his Honor Flight to Washington D.C. in 2016.
Fred was a man of deep faith and attended Worthington United Methodist Church for many years. He enjoyed spending time with his family, at his church, socializing with his many friends, traveling, fishing, golfing, and playing the organ and piano.
The Viewing will be held Friday, March 12, 2021, 5:00 to 7:00 pm, at First Baptist Church in Grove City, Ohio. The Funeral Service will be held Saturday, March 13, 2021, at 11:00 am, at First Baptist Church in Grove City, with Dave Berna, of First Baptist Church, and John Girard, of Worthington United Methodist Church, officiating. The Burial Service will follow at Sunset Cemetery in Galloway, Ohio.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
