Dian Genese Johnson of Irvington was born on July 30, 1958, and passed away on March 3, 2021.
Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, a traditional funeral service is not feasible at the time. Therefore, the family will have a private service followed by an interment at Rosedale Cemetery of Orange, New Jersey.
Dian "Dee-Dee" Johnson was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Dian passed away peacefully at Newark Beth Israel Hospital of Newark, NJ on March 3, 2021. She was born in Rembert, SC, on July 30, 1958 to the late Rev. Sanders and Corrine Jasper.
Dian was converted at an early age and baptized at the Rafting Creek Baptist Church in Rembert, SC, where she served as an active member until relocating to New Jersey.
Dian attended Sumter County Public School System and graduated from Hilcrest High School in Dazell, SC in 1976. She then attended and graduated from Columbia Junior College in Columbia, SC. Dian later relocated to New Jersey in May of 1989. She then met the love of her life, Mitchell Johnson. The two sweethearts were married on June 3, 2000. From this union, they had 2 children. Dian was employed at Broadway House for Continuing Care for many years, holding a role as the unit secretary.
Dian loved spending time in the kitchen preparing meals for her family, friends and church family. She was famously known for her "Broccoli Cornbread" recipe that she made for every family function, holiday or event. Dian was a woman of faith and a faithful member of Pilgrim Baptist Church of Newark, NJ where she served as an active member of the Deaconess Ministry, Nurses Ministry and Inspirational Choir, until her health no longer allowed her to do so.
Dian was preceded in death by her three brothers, Bernard Jasper, Larry Jasper and Thomas Jasper; and three nephews, Bernard Jr., Trent and Delford Royal.
Dian will be missed by her loving husband of 20 years, Min. Mitchell Johnson; one daughter, Michelle Nance (Akie); one son, Trevor Johnson; two grandchildren, Akie Jr. and Alaya Nance; eight sisters, Jean Alston (Joe) of Rembert, SC, Geraldine Bryant of Irvington, NJ, Mildred Jasper of Brooklyn, NY, Sandra Jasper of Rembert, SC, Shirley Jasper of White Plains, MD, Brenda Jasper of Rembert, SC, Deborah Jasper of Columbia, SC and Zyronia Jasper of Rembert, SC; her father-in-law, three sisters-in-law, one brother-in-law, and a host of aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
