Ronald Roy Falkenhagen passed away peacefully in his Macomb Township home surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, March 09, 2021 at the age of 81.
Ron was born in Mt. Clemens on May 10, 1939, to the late Roy and Beatrice (nee: Hohf) Falkenhagen. Ron "Bub" considered Mt. Clemens one of the best cities in the world and remained local throughout his entire life. Ron graduated from Mt. Clemens High School in 1957 where he was a three sport athlete in football, basketball, and his favorite sport, baseball. After graduating high school, he played in the Detroit Tiger minor league system for three seasons from 1958-60. The 1959 season he was the league's winningest pitcher and was selected to the league All-Star team.

Ron became a part time employee at the Ford Motor Company Vinyl Plant in August of 1959 where he ended up working for 35 years full time before retiring in May 1996 as a Materials Handler. On June 19th, 1959, he married his high school sweetheart, Carol Ann Sampson "Sammy". During their 61 year marriage, they had five children who brought him immeasurable joy. He was the epitome of a family man and was loved dearly. He enjoyed family time as well as bowling, playing softball, golfing and coaching.

Coaching sports became his passion and he coached for over 50 years. He spent 10 years as the Head Baseball Coach at L'Anse Creuse High School – North from 1993-2003 where he won two MAC Blue Championships and was named Coach of the Year. He mentored and inspired countless kids and young athletes, with many going on to pursue collegiate and professional careers.

Upon his retirement from coaching, he picked up a passion for the game of golf and continued to remain active as an assistant coach and spectator for all of his grandchildren's sports and activities. His first grandchild Bobby nicknamed him "Papa." From that day forward, he was referred to as Papa by nearly everyone he knew. Papa had an infectious sense of humor, smile and laugh. He had an incredible memory and was an engaging and detailed storyteller. He enjoyed his longtime childhood friends, "the boys", and would meet them for coffee, donuts and cards regularly. Papa was loving, caring, gentle and willing to help everyone he could.

Papa was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 1998. He lived graciously and courageously with the disease for 22 years. He won his battle in other important ways by inspiring and teaching all of us how to live life to the fullest. He will be remembered by all as an example of a life well lived. Papa will be missed beyond measure and remembered dearly in our hearts. In his own written words, "I truly have been blessed by my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ".

Sadly, due to COVID-19 restrictions, a celebration of Ron's life will be held at a future date. Ron will be cremated and his final resting place will be at Cadillac Memorial Gardens East Cemetery.
