Victor Caswell Richardson Fondly known as “Guns,” Vic was a life-long Jamestowner, leaving only to serve his country as an Army medic in WWII. He was a part of the Invasion of Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge.
Guns was a proud winner of the “Most Ingenious Design” award in the Fools Rules Regatta for years on end. He enjoyed biking, sailing, flying and driving around Fort Getty and Beavertail. He knew every square inch of his beloved island. An avid photographer, he was proud to see his byline in the Jamestown Press.
Guns worked as a chief engineer on the Jamestown-Newport ferry line, until the boats were retired. He then worked at URI as a steam plant engineer, and whenever possible, on the research vessels, Trident and Endeavor. He was fascinated by math, science, engineering and astronomy. Never bored, he had pursuits that ranged from growing tomatoes in seaweed to amateur radio, from teaching himself calculus to making boomerangs.
He loved hot coffee, ice cream, dogs, and Jamestown.
He was predeceased by his wife of 68 years, Charlotte, and parents, Alfred V. Richardson and Edith (Caswell) Richardson.
He leaves behind his sister, Dot Blythe, and his brother, Donald Richardson, both of Jamestown; his 4 daughters: D. Karen Richardson, Gaelyn (Wayne) Bunker, Kim (Wayne) Whittenhall, and Pamela Jarret; 4 grandchildren: Jennelle (David) Goodburn, Reese (Jimi) Grondin, Lucien (Kim) Jarret, and Elena (Steve) Hughes, as well as 9 great-grandchildren. He was beloved by many nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends.
In the last years of his life, he was loved and cared for by his family and Josh Sullivan, as well as the amazing caregivers at the John Clarke Nursing Center and of Cathleen Naughton Associates.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
