William Alton Willis II passed away on March 9, 2021 surrounded by family at his home in Houston, Texas, after a courageous two-year battle against lymphoma. He was 64.
Bill was born September 14, 1956 on Reese Air Force Base in Lubbock, Texas as the fourth child and only son of William Alton “W. A.” Willis and Ruby Dean (Shields) Willis.
As a youth, Bill distinguished himself in football, baseball, and track and even learned to umpire baseball games with his father. In 1975, Bill graduated from Abilene High School in Abilene, Texas. He then enrolled at the University of Texas at Austin, where he completed a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting in 1979. While in Austin, Bill wooed the love of his life, Denise Marie Wallendorf of Fredericksburg, Texas, with his famous Pink Lemonade Pie. They were married in Houston, Texas on July 30, 1979 and had three children. Bill worked in Houston for 40 years - first as a CPA and later as a Business Analyst. For 30 of those years, Bill and Denise faithfully attended Houston’s Calvary Community Church where Bill served on the Ministry Team, taught multiple Sunday School Classes, and volunteered in the Children’s Ministry.
Bill loved to watch football and relished every opportunity to wear Burnt Orange and root for his Texas Longhorns. Bill also continued to have a special place in his heart for baseball. He loved the Houston Astros, umpired youth and community games, and even coached his son’s teams. He was a supportive father, often going to great lengths to attend all of his children’s performances. In his free time, Bill loved to watch classic movies and television shows, listen to Jim Reeves and other nostalgic music, study history and astronomy, and learn and teach Prophetic Dream Interpretation. Bill talked to everyone, showed a playful sense of humor, and had a generous heart. He also had a soft spot for animals: he cherished the memory of his childhood dog, Lulu, and he would even feed the birds and squirrels that daily visited his yard. Bill followed Jesus, treasured his family, and loved his country. He was a good provider, listener, mentor, and friend.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents and his oldest sister, Carolyn (Willis) Brown.
Bill is survived by his wife Denise Marie (Wallendorf) Willis; his daughter and son-in-law Rebecca and Glenn Creighton, and their daughters Hannah and Elizabeth; his daughter and son-in-law Kris and Chris Weixelbaum, and their children Jett and Olivia; his son and daughter-in-law Joshua and Gabriella Willis; his sisters Judy Jordan and Sherry A. Willis; his niece Julie (Charles) Shaddox, and her father Julian Burch; his great-nephews Jaxson Shaddox and Jake Alton Shaddox; several brothers, sisters, nieces, and nephews by marriage; and many cousins, in-laws, and extended family.
Services will be held on Saturday, March 20, 2021 at Calvary Community Church, 7550 Cherry Park Drive, Houston, TX 77095. Seating will be socially distanced, but attendees may choose whether to wear a mask. For those who are uncomfortable attending in person, the service will also be available via live stream on Calvary’s YouTube channel.
Visitation will begin at noon, and the funeral will begin at 1pm. Burial will follow at Carmen Nelson Bostick Cemetery in Tomball, Texas.
