Thomas J. Norris, age 62, a resident of Wheaton, passed away peacefully March 5, 2021 at his home surrounded by his family after a long hard battle with cancer. He was born April 4, 1958 in Chicago to Edward & Margaret Norris.

Tom grew up in Oak Park, IL was the youngest of 9 children. Coming from a long line of Norris athletes, Tom excelled on the Basketball court leading his Oak Park River Forest High School team to a 3rd place finish in State his Senior year(‘76). Tom was eventually inducted in the Illinois High School Basketball Hall of Fame in 2020 for his achievements. Tom continued his playing career at Baylor University(TX) and then University of Illinois Chicago(UIC). Soon after graduating from UIC in 1981, Tom married his high school sweetheart, Terri Hakes, and the two moved to Wheaton, IL. There they raised their 3 sons.

Tom worked in the beverage industry in various sales and managerial positions for more than 35 years at various companies including long stints with Romano Brothers, Brown Forman Beverage group, Pernod Ricard, Blackheath Beverage Stillhouse Spirits while ending his career with Miami Cocktails.

While Tom’s wit and charm made him a successful manager, his real passions were sports, family, and faith. Tom served the Wheaton community and his sons for over 20 years as a beloved coach in various youth programs including the boys travel basketball, park district baseball, and Rams youth football. Tom relished in every opportunity to teach young people about the power of sports the lessons that come with it. Tom also became very involved in various ministries at his parish, St. Michael Catholic Church in Wheaton, working with the refugee ministry and as a teacher in the religious education program.

Tom was beloved by many for his gifts of selfless giving, storytelling and contagious sense of humor. Tom was a true “family man”. He was tirelessly devoted to his wife and sons and became an adoring grandfather to his grandchildren. Tom had the ability to bring out the best in others making them always feel loved and valued. He was a devoted Catholic Christian that spent countless hours on his knees at Daily Mass, praying the Rosary, reading scripture, and telling others about the Love of God in his own unique way. Tom followed the example of Jesus by always loving his neighbor and constantly serving others.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Terri; his three sons Tom, Sean (Sarah) & Ed Norris; his grandchildren Lydia & Miriam; his siblings MaryJo Delihant, Edward (Lynn) Norris, Jeff (Janine) Norris, Julie Norris & Margaret Norris. Also survived by his sisters-in-law Barb & Linda Norris.

He was preceded in death by his siblings Mike, Kathy & David; and his parents.

A visitation will be held Friday, March 12, 2021, from 3:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., Wheaton, IL 60187 where a service of remembrance will begin at 7:00 p.m. Guests are asked to wear a facial covering and maintain social distancing guidelines. Only 50 guests are allowed in the funeral home at one time. You may be asked to remain outside until someone exits. For those unable to attend, the service of remembrance will be livestreamed at 7:00 p.m.: https://youtu.be/Tu12Gbi9ZLs.

Funeral services will take place on Saturday, March 13, 2021, 9:15 a.m. from the funeral home to St. Michael Catholic Church for Mass at 10:00 a.m. For those unable to attend, the Mass will be livestreamed at 10:00 a.m.: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wmE6cCbKHI4.

Interment will follow at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside, IL.

Tom supported an organization for many years called "Unbound".
