Robert Allen Sanford, Sr., 91, passed away on March 5, 2021. He was born December 9, 1929.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin T. Sanford, Sr. and Myrtle V. Sanford, a sister Eva Coccaro, and his wife, Mary.
He leaves a brother Marvin T Sanford, Jr., three children, Phyllis L. Bogle of Gulf Breeze, FL, Robert A. Sanford, Jr (Lauren) of Millington, and Debra S. Gentry (Thomas) of Maumelle, AR; seven grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
Robert’s journey began just north of downtown Memphis in the Pinch District on 5th street during the depression era. He began working for Armour Meat Packing Company in 1947 loading boxcars. Over the next forty years he worked his way up, eventually becoming Amour’s Southeast Area Sales Manager.
In 1948 he met and married Mary L Sanford with whom he spent 69 years until her death in 2017.
After retiring from Armour, he and Mary enjoyed travelling and visiting their children and grandchildren. “Gu” was the true patriarch of his family. The original Mr. Fix-It, known for his many masters of trades, from automotive repair to grandchildren’s toys he could solve any problem presented and was always there for anyone who needed anything.
We will miss our beloved father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend.
The family requests any donations be sent to the Catholic Church of the Resurrection where he was a long time parishioner.
A private service for family will be held March 16, 2021. Forest Hill Funeral Home has charge.
