Billy George Barnes, 89, of Nowata passed away at his home Tuesday, March 9, 2021. He was born June 19, 1931 in Nowata County, Oklahoma to William Edward and Marguerite (Moore) Barnes. Billy was a 1949 graduate of Childers High School. He excelled in basketball and baseball. On July 29, 2002, Billy married the love of his life Gaynelle Wickliffe in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. Billy enjoyed fishing, hunting (coon), attending chicken fights, and team roping. He loved talking to friends and loved practical jokes. A lot of friends would say he was a little ornery but a very good guy. Billy loved watching grandchildren play ball. Above all he loved his family. Billy will be missed by many that knew him.

Preceding Billy Barnes in death are his parents William and Marguerite Barnes; a daughter, Sherry Reece; three brothers, Bob, Jim, and Danny Barnes; a grandson Steven Ketcherside; and a great -great grandson Clyde Harris Link.

Survivors include his wife Gaynelle Barnes of the home; children, Terry Barnes, and wife Patricia, of Nowata, Billy Dean Barnes, of Nowata, Bobby Barnes, of Nowata, Teresa Wilson, of Nowata; Lori Glasscock and husband Terry, of Vinita: 20 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; sisters, Vada Tatum of Claremore, Linda Kipps and husband Jack of Nowata; many other relatives and a host of friends.

Services for Billy Barnes will be held at the Benjamin Funeral Home in Nowata at 10:00 am, Friday, March 12, 2021. Officiating will be Randall Schatz. Burial will follow at McMains Cemetery, Nowata.
