Lois Middleton Hughes was born August 22, 1932 in Clarksville, Oklahoma to Comer and Odessa Middleton. Lois was the 2nd of 10 children. She attended First Baptist Church of Clarksville during her childhood. She attended Clarksville Elementary School 1st through 8th Grade. Lois received her formal education at Carter G. Woodson High School in Tallahassee, Oklahoma; graduated with the class of 1950. In 1952 she met and married Arthur Jackson, to this union Ellard Jackson Sr. was born in 1953. She moved to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma for employment in 1954. She left Oklahoma City in 1958 and moved to California where she remained for the next 14 years. Lois Middleton moved back to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma where she met and married Reverend James Hughes in 1972. Lois Hughes moved to Lawton where Reverend James Hughes had his ministry. Lois Hughes was a loving wife that remained married to Reverend James Hughes until his death in 1990. Worshipping God and attending church were always part of her life. She was a servant in the church she attended, and had a passion for music and singing as well as a wonderful sense of humor. She remained a member of her church until 2011. Mrs. Lois Hughes later moved to Tishomingo, Oklahoma to reside with her sister Heddie Becks and brother-in-law, Leprell Becks where she attended Calvary Baptist Church where she would be requested to sing solos. In her final years she resided at Brookside Nursing Home in Madill where she was a favorite among the staff and fellow residence and to the end, she still had a passion for music and singing.
God called her home on March 7, 2021 where she will be reunited with her son Ellard Jackson who preceded her in death in 2011; parents, Comer and Odessa Middlerton; 3 brothers and 4 sisters. She will be dearly missed for her humor and singing by her family and friends. Lois Hughes loved the Lord as well as attending church. She is survived by her sisters, Bessie Davis and Marva Mitchner; grandsons, Ellard Windell Jackson II, Christopher Jackson and Andre Jackson 10 nieces and 6 nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. God took one of his best so she can be an inspiration for the rest. Rest in Peace Mrs. Lois Hughes. We Love You and You will never be forgotten. The entire family would like to thank everyone for their love, prayers and support.
Funeral Services to honor and celebrate Lois’s life will be held at DeArman-Clark Funeral Home. Interment to follow at Tishomingo Cemetery.
