Richard Joseph Magdon of Ansonia, Connecticut, passed away at age 66 on Saturday, April 23, 2016, at Columbus Hospital in Newark, New Jersey, following a long illness . He was the son of Joseph W. and Josephine G. (Creddo) Magdon, and the loving husband of Julie (Tuttle) Magdon, all of whom predeceased him.
Born in Bridgeport, Connecticut, on August 3, 1949, Richard was a graduate of both Notre Dame in Bridgeport and Fairfield University in Fairfield. After his college graduation, Rich began a teaching career at Seymour High School and then later moved on to Fairfield Prep as a teacher, administrator, and coach. Always a sports fanatic, coaching and football became his love and his mission. Over the years, he became a respected part of the coaching community; and as an assistant coach and later as head coach, he helped lead the team to many successful seasons. As a head coach, his record was 96-69-2; and one of his greatest wins was when they beat Cheshire High School in 1996, ending that team's 49-game win streak. After his retirement from Prep, Rich happily became part of the Ansonia Football Program and remained involved with the program until his health would no longer allow it. Although he had moved to Ansonia many years ago, Rich was always a 'Bridgeporter' to the core. More important than all, Rich (in his unique style) was a mentor to many young men. He will be truly missed and not soon forgotten by his many friends, the men he mentored, and all who knew him.
Rich was survived by his son, Jayme Tuttle, Sr., and his special grandson and friend, Jayme 'J.J.' Tuttle, Jr., as well as several other grandchildren and relatives.
In lieu of flowers, the family requested that donations be made to Jayme's education in care of Lawrence F. Pace, Jr., PO Box 5126, in Bridgeport, 06610. Friends were invited to attend calling hours on Thursday afternoon, April 28, 2016, from 3:00 to 7:00, at the Parente-Lauro Funeral Home in Bridgeport; and interment services were private, at the convenience of the family.
