Obituary for Robert Weiss

East Dundee - Robert Everett Weiss, age 89, passed away in his home surrounded by family, Saturday, February 27, 2021.

He was born May 17, 1931, in Valparaiso, IN, the son of Carl and Mary (Merkle) Weiss, and one of 10 brothers and sisters. Robert grew up on a farm northwest of Valparaiso, and graduated from Liberty Township High School in 1950. He served in the military during the Korean War from 1950 to 1952.

Robert was a long-time resident of East Dundee, IL, where he was a loving husband and father to his wife Eleanor and two daughters, Elizabeth and Gail.

Robert owned and operated City Ice and Fuel for seven years. He earned certification of completion from numerous trade schools in heating and air conditioning, and was service manager for 17 years with Scarlet Glow Engineering Heating and Air Conditioning, Elk Grove Village, IL. After retirement in 1997, he enjoyed driving a school bus for St Charles School District 303 for 8 years.

Surviving are his wife Eleanor (Steiner) of 67 years; two daughters Elizabeth Moore (Larry) of Elgin, and Gail Wonneberg of Elgin; six grandchildren: Sarah Stoller (Jeff) of Ft. Wayne, IN, Shawn Moore of Beijing, China, Stanley Moore of Beijing, China, Scot Moore of San Francisco, CA, James Wonneberg (Lisa) of Tacoma, WA, and Keith Wonneberg (Janelle) of Colorado Springs, CO; nine great-grandchildren; one sister Patricia Schifferer (Howard, late) of Elgin, two brothers Paul Weiss (Joyce, late) of Hampshire, IL, and Morey Weiss of Hartford, VT.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Mary (Merkle) Weiss, three sisters, Lucille Kellenberger (Freeman, late), Katherine Rudin (Harlen, late), Gladys Weiss, three brothers, Calvin Weiss (Dena), Oliver Weiss (Marie, late), and Ted Weiss (Gerry, late).

Robert attended the Apostolic Christian Church of Elgin all of his adult life.

Robert was a very much-loved son, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother. He will be greatly missed.

Visitation will be held inside Laird Funeral Home, Elgin, on Saturday, March 6, from 9:00 to 11:00 AM, followed by the Funeral Service in the funeral home at 11:00 AM. Interment with honors will follow at 12:00 noon at Lakewood Memorial Park, Elgin, IL. Officiating is Dan Moser, clergy, of Apostolic Christian Church of Elgin. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be gifted to Highland Oaks, Elgin, IL. Many thanks to the nurses of Journey Care and Hospice Care.
