Major League Baseball Player. He played Major League Baseball as a right-handed pitcher for 13 seasons(1910 to 1911, 1913 to 1920, 1922 to 1923, 1927) with the New York Giants and Boston Braves. He played with the New York Giants from 1910 to 1911, pitching in only 4 games over the two seasons. After spending the 1912 season in the minors, he was picked up by the Boston Braves in 1913, and would star with them for the next 7 seasons. In 1914 he teamed with pitchers Lefty Tyler and Bill James to help the Braves go from last place in July to winning the National League Pennant, with Rudolph winning 26 games, second behind the Phillies' Grover C. Alexander's 27 wins. In the 1914 World Series he won the first and last games of an improbable Braves sweep of the heavily favored Connie Mack-led Philadelphia Athletics (through 18 innings pitched he gave up only 2 runs, and had two hits himself). He would win 22 and 19 games in the 1916 and 1917 seasons respectively. After 1919 he was one of only a handful of pitcher who would be allowed to pitch a spitball. When his career waned, he became a coach for the Braves, but again became an active player in 1923, pitching in 4 games (and stopping the Pirates' Charlie Grimm's 25 game hitting streak in one of them). In 1927, he came out of retirement for the last time, pitching in one game. He ended his career with 121 wins, 108 losses, 786 strikeouts and a 2.66 ERA. After his retirement from baseball he became a successful New York City mortician.
