Professional baseball player and manager. Mr. Loftus played baseball briefly for St. Louis in both the National League and the American Association. He also played for the Dubuque, Iowa team in the Northwest League in 1879 on a team which also consisted of Hall of Famers Charles Comiskey and Charles Radbourne. He would later manage several teams including the Chicago Orphans of the National League and the Washington Senators of the American League. During his playing days he was the first player to develop the bunt.
