John W. Hardesty was the son of Jeremiah Jerome Hardesty and Cecilia Livers. He was born in KY but spent most of his life in Randolph County, IL where the family moved. He was breifly married to Mary Derousse but remained single after that. He was the financially stable one in the family and took care of both his father's and mother's estates. He remained a devout Catholic and was buried in the cemetery of the church he attended in life, near his mother, brother Thomas and father
