Kenneth David Ellis, 86, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, left our presence at 11:38 pm March 8, 2021 at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mount Vernon. He was born September 5, 1934 in Farrington, Illinois to the late James Earl and Lola Belle (Cooper) Ellis. Kenneth married Ruth Ann (Rightnowar) Ellis on July 16, 1958.
In addition to his parents, Kenneth was preceded in death by his brothers, Keith, Carl, and Noel Ellis; sisters, Oleta Swarn, Bonita Volyes; and grandson, David Matthew Ellis.
Mr. Ellis was born in Farrington Township where he lived most of his life. He worked as a laborer in construction for many years and has also worked as a welder at Stanford Engineering in Salem. Mr. Ellis proudly served his country in the United States Army.
Kenneth always had a bright, sunny disposition and was always willing to listen and lend a hand. He never met a stranger whether they had two or four legs and he loved being outdoors. Kenneth will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and his wonderful neighbors.
A Visitation will be held Saturday, March 13, 2021 from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois. A Funeral Service will begin at 2:00 pm with Chaplain Ernie Collins officiating. Interment will follow at Harmony Cemetery in Mount Vernon, Illinois. Full Military Rites will be held by American Legion Post #141 at the cemetery. Memorials may be made in Kenneth's honor to Harmony Cemetery or Jefferson County Animal Shelter.
