Reverend Fred Clayton Wade was the third child born to Oscar Wade and Naomi Cephas on March 8, 1943 in San Marcos, Texas.

At a young age he moved to Austin, where he attended public school. He married Frances Nell Musgrove in 1962 and together they raised six wonderful children. He had a long, successful career in highway construction with the Texas Department of Transportation and with several private sector companies. He was a part of many major projects in Austin and other cities in Texas, including the Granger Dam, Mansfield Dam and the iconic Pennybacker Bridge, just to name a few.
Reverend Wade was also an entrepreneur, he was owner and operator of the Soul Zodiac Record Shop, and he established and managed 3-Way Construction and Landscaping. His hard work and compassion for his trade also led him to build a home for his family in 1980, which was one of his greatest accomplishments. He professed his faith in Christ as a young man and began his missionary journey to win souls for the Lord. He was ordained as a minister on March 11, 1984 at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Austin. He went on to pastor Center Union Missionary Baptist Church in Buda, Texas and Mount Horeb Missionary Baptist Church in Blanco, Texas. He was led by the Spirit of God to start the “Crossroads of Faith Ministry” to mentor, counsel, and teach the word of God to those in prison.

He was preceded in death by his father, Oscar Wade; mother, Naomi Cephas; step-mother, Laura Wade; two brothers, Oscar Deleon Wade and Joe Henry Wade; and three sons, Fredrick Wade, Rodney Wade and Kenneth Wade.

He leaves with cherished memories; his wife, Frances Wade; two sons, Byron Zachary and Lonnie Ray; two daughters, Lisa Perry and April Wade; three sisters, Rosemary Alston, Claudine Barlow, and Laura Alexander; sixteen grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren; special friends, Robert and Helen McBride and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Something we will always remember about Reverend Fred Wade, his faith, his love for the Wade family, and his humor. May his legacy live on through those who survived him and the many generations to follow.
