Shirley Dean (Dunn) 'Granny' Abbott went to be with her Lord and Savior on March 4, 2021 in Plano, Texas. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, March 7, 2021 at Montague Cemetery in Montague. Pallbearers will be Shawn Smith, Malcom Johnson, LaKolm Johnson, Levi Love, Robert David Molsbee, Jr., and Douglas Abbott.
Shirley was born on January 12, 1937 in Dye Mound, Montague County, Texas to Frank and Sylvia Faye (Sheen) Dunn. She married James Abbott on May 10, 1957 in Dye Mount. They had five children and traveled form Lubbock to Montague County. James was a farmer and Shirley was a homemaker. They were married for 21 years until James passed away on July 4, 1975. Shirley lived in Saint Jo, Texas at the Glenbrook Apartments until November 2012 and was a member of the First Baptist Church and was known for always taking care of the elderly. "Granny was a firecracker, do not upset her", said by a grandchild. She was always quick to jump when something was wrong and always kept an eye out for her neighbors at Glenbrook Apartments.
She is survived by daughters: Deborrah Smith, Vickie and husband John Johnson, Karla and husband C.W. Lee, and Patsy Morphew; son: Douglas Abbott; grandchildren: James Johnson, Kimberly Johnson, Amy and husband Billy Woods, Erin and husband Daniel Wigglesworth, Robert David Molsbee, Jr., Shawn and wife Emily Smith, Stella Gomez, and Kelly Vineyard; and great grandchildren: Malcolm, LaKolm, Levi, Madison, Lexi, Willa, Lynlee, Brylee, Brenton, and Samuel.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Frank and Faye Dunn; husband: James Abbott; sisters: Bessie Mae Brown, Ruby Jo McAnally, and Berta Faye May; and brother: Weldon 'Bo' Dunn.
