Charles T. Fields, 88, of Loogootee, passed away at 5:25 a.m. Monday, February 7, 2022, at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper.

He was born February 17, 1933, in Loogootee, Indiana to the late Eugene fields and Goldie May(Dillion)Fox.

Charlie was a United States Army veteran and served overseas during the Korean War.

He received the following awards: Purple Heart recipient, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal and Bronze Start Attachment (Triple), Combat Infantryman Badge 1st Award and United Nations Service Medal.

After Charlie returned from the war, he was injured and lost his left arm. He struggled to fin employment and became a farmer in Rutherford Township. He eventually became employed at Crane (CAAA) and retired as a heavy equipment operator.

Charlie enjoyed winters in Florida and camping with his wife, Ann. He loved woodworking, fishing, watching western movies and reading Louis Lamar books. He was found mowing his yard every couple of days. Charlie was very giving and always would lend a helping hand.

He was a member of the American Legion - Post 120, Veterans of Foreign War - Post 9395 and St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church.

Charlie was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Laura(Kaiser)Fields; daughter, Charlotte Russell; parents, Eugene Fields and Goldie May Fox; siblings, Buddy Fields, Eddie(Betty) Fields, Jackie(Joyce)Fields, Rosie Fields and Laura(Bob)Wathen; daughter-in-law, Debbie Fields.

He is survived by his children, Jim Fields and Carol(Jason)Jones, both of Loogootee; grandchildren, Ryan Fields, Kyle Russell, Beau Russell, Amanda Oakman, Sarah Troutman and Travis Troutman; great-grandchildren, Darion, Dalton, Jade and Kaden; brother, Delbert Fields of Alabama; half-siblings, Barbara Moffatt of Loogootee, Bill Fields of Loogootee and Frankie Fields of Loogootee; son-in-law, Wayne Russell of Loogootee; many nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Friday, February 18, 2022, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Loogootee, officiated by Very Rev. J. Kenneth Walker.

Burial will follow in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery - Barr Township.

Visitation will be held Thursday, February 17, 2022, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Blake Funeral Home in Loogootee.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be St. Mary Cemetery Fund.
