She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell S. Carter, Sr.; daughter Candice Carter Williams; brothers Carl Edwards, Ralph Edwards, Charles Edwards, Jr. and Edgar Lee Edwards; sisters Beatrice Quidley, Mattie Jones, Mary Lou MacArthur, and Irene Harrell Johnson; and parents Charles Henry Edwards and Mattie Lillian Wilkerson Edwards.
Survivors include her son Russell S. Carter, Jr and several nephews and nieces.
Doris retired from Carolina Telephone and Telegraph. She was a member of First Baptist Church Tarboro where she was active in their women’s missions.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, March 10, 2021 at 11:00 am at Greenwood Cemetery.
