Stanley was born on April 3, 1937 to Vallie Joyce Russell and Charles Thompson in Decatur, IL.
After his parents divorced Stanley and his siblings lived with his Aunt Ora Lee Thompson-Caveat in Peoria, IL. Years later, Stanley and his siblings moved back to Decatur, IL. Stanley regularly attended Antioch Missionary Baptist Church with his sister Jean Patricia Thompson-Conley. Stanley also loved getting coffee at Perkins Restaurant & Bakery in Decatur. Also, He enjoyed spending weekends with his Uncle Verle Lon Russell Sr, Avery Russell, and family.
Stanley is survived by his uncles, Verle Lon Russell Sr., and Dr. Cannutte Russell; nephews, Fredrick Cannutte Conley, and Kermit Lee Conley II.
Stanley was preceded in death by his parents, stepfather, Leonard Bernard; his brother, Anthony Spenser Thompson; his sisters Cornellia Odessa Thompson-Howell and Jean Patricia Thompson-Conley, and his aunt Ora Lee Thompson-Caviat.
