Douglas Marlin Hill, 67, loving husband, father, brother, and grandpa passed away unexpectedly on Thursday March 4, 2021 from heart issues.

He was born to Marlin Vernon Hill and Edna Mae Noorda in Logan, Utah on April 13, 1953. He grew up in Sunset, Utah and graduated from Clearfield High School.

Doug was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served a mission in Georgia/South Carolina. He considered his missionary service as an honor and a building block to his life.

He learned early the value of hard work and dedication. While working full time he attended Weber State College and graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science in Accounting. He worked for the Southern Pacific Railroad and after a long career, retired from Hill Air Force Base as an accountant.

He met the love of his life in November of 1984 and on April 13, 1985, Doug married Julie D. Botts in Sunset, Utah. They were later sealed in the Logan Temple on May 12, 1989. They have been happily married for 36 years.

His life was built around being lighthearted, caring, kind. He was well known for making a difficult situation lighter and dark times brighter for those around him. He knew what to say when you needed a friend or knew just when to listen. He had a heart of gold that was there for everyone around him.

Doug loved the outdoors, boating, water skiing at Bear Lake, hiking, hunting, fishing, four-wheeling at Beaver Mountain, and camping. During one of those outings, he told the story of how he was chased by Bigfoot in the Uintas and throughout his life, always took the scenic route to keep an eye out for another sighting.

He was an avid BYU fan and loved watching them play football and basketball. His love of sports also showed in the many hours he spent throughout his children’s childhoods. During their years playing baseball, football, soccer, tennis, basketball and volleyball, he was there practicing with them and helping them succeed or cheering them on at games.

Throughout his life, home wasn’t home without his beloved dogs, those past and present.

Family was the heart and soul of his existence. He was always present in his four children’s lives supporting them in all of the endeavors they chose. His most loved times were being around and playing with his kids, through sports, hunting or playing in nature. Later in life, he enjoyed being with grandkids, Kyler Hill, Sharlise and Preston Hill, and Hayes and Tessa Harrison. He had a special place in his heart for newborns and young children. His most gentle nature was evident while holding his grandchildren, and was able to hold his newest grandkids Indie and Bodie Harrison before he passed.

Doug is survived by his wife, Julie Hill, sister, Linda Budge, children, Chadrick Hill (Shawn Hill), Jeremiah Hill (Shae Hill), Sarah Harrison (Tye Harrison), Matthew Hill, and grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his brother Paul Hill, parents Marlin and Edna, and his grandparents.

Although our hearts are saddened by the loss of such a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend, we will forever be grateful for his influence and love in our lives.

Funeral services will be held Friday, March 12, 2021 at Lindquist’s Roy Mortuary, 3333 West 5600 South. The family will meet with friends Thursday, March 11th from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 at the mortuary.

Interment, Kaysville Cemetery.
