Benny S. Phillips was born on Monday, April 3, 1944 to Ivy & Pallie Phillips of Hodge, Louisiana. At an early age he grew to love athletics and often recalled tossing a football in the yard with his father. Benny went on to become an All-State quarterback at Jonesboro-Hodge High School where he graduated in the spring of 1962. After graduation he enlisted and proudly served in the National Guard for six years, training in the Missouri Ozarks at Ft. Leonard Wood. He married the love of his life, Linda Dale Porter of Winnfield, LA on May 23, 1965. Benny was involved in both his church and his community. He held the office of Worshipful Master for Jonesboro Lodge #280 F & AM from 1989-1990 and served as a deacon at Midway Baptist Church for over 20 years.

Benny is survived by his wife, Linda Phillips; son, Scott Phillips; daughter, Amy Phillips Johnston & husband Troy; sisters, Carolyn Hooks & husband Mickey and Frances Lampkin & husband Sam; brother-in-law Ronald Porter & wife Margaret; grandchildren, Zachary Johnston & wife Anna, Jacob Johnston & wife Allison and Brody Johnston.
