Verna Dale Newman nee Sweeney, age 81, of Hammond, passed away suddenly
Tuesday, November 22, 2016. Beloved wife for 63 years to Robert "Bobby" W. Newman. Loving mother of Charles "Dennis" (Susan) Newman, Kerry (Debbie) Newman, the late Anthony "Tony" C. Newman. Devoted daughter of late Noah S. Sweeney and late Maude E. Sweeney nee Brasher. Beloved sister of Effie (late Gene) Shelton, Della Price, Margie Sweeney and late Mack (Faye) Sweeney. Proud grandmother of Brett 9 Elizabeth) Newman, Julie Newman, Jason (Carrie) Newman, Jessica (Frank) Przyblo, Olivia Newman, and Grace Newman. Cherished aunt of numerous nieces and nephews.

Verna retired from White Castle in 1998 after 18 years. She had a green thumb and her beautiful garden provided her family with fresh and canned vegetables. Beside the title of wife and mother, she was most proud of the title of "Granny". Verna was loved by many and will be missed by more.

Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, November 29, 2016 with Rev. C. James Facklam, Pastor officiating at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, Schererville, IN. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Humane Society Calumet Area.
