James William McAbee (Jimmy) passed away on March 4, 2021. He was a native of Henderson County and enjoyed his entire life here. He was preceded in death by his parents Ernest Marion and Pauline Burrell McAbee, his daughter Nellie Jane Ann McAbee, and his brother Ernest Hilliard McAbee.

He graduated from Flat Rock High School in 1958 and married Mary Frances Blythe in 1961. He is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, his children Michelle Renee McAbee, Crystal Leigh McAbee Cheek (Greg), and Scott Damone McAbee, his grandchildren Cody McAbee Cheek (Jordan) and Katie Scarlett Cheek; his sister Dinah Ann McAbee Hunter (Murdic), his sister-in-law Linda McAbee, and niece Kara McAbee Widener (Mark).

Jimmy worked at Cranston Print Works, GE, and for many years for the NCDMV. He established McAbees’ Fruit Stand in the sixties, which would always be his labor of love.

In his early years he was a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church; in the eighties he transferred to Hendersonville First United Methodist Church where he especially enjoyed the Roy Johnson Class and many of the ministers. He belonged to the Jaycees, receiving several honors.

A private graveside service was held at the cemetery at Bethel Wesleyan Church.

Pallbearers included Jeffrey Henderson, Larry Henderson, Edwin Hudgins, Mitchell Maybin, Greg Pace, and Jim Wright.
