Arizona Daily Sun Newspaper Article:

Ancona, 36, was stabbed to death on Dec. 29, 1991 at a central Phoenix bar where she worked. Krone, 45, was sentenced to death following a trial in 1992, but his conviction was overturned on a technicality. He was retried and convicted in 1996 and sentenced to life. According to trial testimony, Ancona was last seen closing the CBS Lounge around 1 a.m. She had told a friend earlier that "Ray" was going to help her close the bar. The bar owner found her dead the next morning. She had been stabbed once in the back, four times in the throat and once in the back of the neck. She was naked except for her socks, and there were bite marks on her throat and left breast. At trial, prosecution and defense experts differed over whether the marks found on Ancona's body matched Krone's bite. An accident left Krone with a distinctive dental pattern. Last year, Simpson petitioned a Maricopa County Superior Court judge to have physical evidence analyzed using the latest DNA technology. The results returned last week showed the DNA didn't match Krone's. Simpson said the DNA extracted from Ancona's clothes was, however, an almost certain match for Phillips'. Simpson said Phillips, who's serving a prison term for child molestation and scheduled to be released in July, admitted during an interview to arguing with Ancona in the bar on the night of the murder. On the morning of December 29, 1991, the body of 36-year-old Kim Ancona was found, nude, in the men's restroom of the Phoenix, Arizona bar where she worked.

Ancona had been fatally stabbed, and the perpetrator left behind little physical evidence. Blood at the crime scene matched the victim's type, and saliva on her body came from someone with the most common blood type. There was no semen and no DNA tests were performed.
