James Otis Cottingham Jr., age 65, passed away March 5, 2021, at his home in Clay, Alabama. He was born December 28, 1955, to James Otis Cottingham Sr. and Frankie Sue Barksdale in Birmingham, Alabama. He attended Woodlawn High School where he was a star football player and team leader who was known to all as "Coco." After high school, he started his career at Alabama Power where he remained loyally for the next thirty-seven years. He was a faithful believer in Christ and a dedicated member of CrossPoint Church in Trussville, Alabama. James Otis was a man like no other. He was open, kind, honest, and he loved people. He never met a stranger in his entire life and was never once accused of being a wallflower. James Otis had a way of finding joy in the everyday and could always be counted on for an entertaining story…or two…or three. If you knew him, then you knew his one-of-kind grin and easy, ever-present chuckle. He was always "starving slap to death" and loved a trip to Buffalo Wild Wings. He was a fan of NASCAR and Alabama football, and a lover of all animals, especially dogs. James Otis fiercely loved his family and was equally loved by them. He was a loving husband, proud father, enamored grandfather, and loyal brother. He is survived by his wife, Pam; his daughter, Kensi (Drew) Duncan; his granddaughter, Collins; his brother, Don (Pam) Cottingham; his sister, Renee (Gary) LeCroy; his stepsons, Johnnie (Kassie), Stephen, and David (Kera) Foster; and his grandchildren: Jacob, Ava Claire, Price, Dottie, Wylder, Degan, and Hollis. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all who knew him. He was and will forever be our "O". Visitation will be on Tuesday, March 9, 2021 from 12:00-2:00 PM at CrossPoint Church followed by service at 2:00 PM. Burial will follow at Jefferson Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to CrossPoint Church in James Otis' memory.
